“My name is Chidinma Henrietta ONWUBERE, a Professor (Broadcasting) in the Department of Mass Communication, Faculty of Social Sciences, National Open University of Nigeria. Chidinma is a trained Nurse UNTH (NRS), an Educationist (B.A. Hons Eng/Ed) UNN, a Jurist, (LL.B) NOUN, and a trained journalist, holding PGD, M.Sc and PhD Degrees in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos, Nigeria.
Chidinma was the Pioneer Head of Department of the Department of Mass Communication NOUN and served in that capacity for 12years out of her 18years sojourn in NOUN and did not relent until she Led the Department to achieving NUC Accreditations of her B.Sc Mass Communication Programme in May,2018 and the Broadcast Journalism Programme in Nov, 2022.
She is highly interested in studies on Children and the Media, especially in the Sub – Saharan Africa and essentially, in Nigeria. Chidinma has published several peer-reviewed articles and contributed chapters in reputable books and journals. She has published a book titled “Exposure of Nigerian Children to Electronic Media Violence And Their Perception of Social Relations” and equally has four booklets in Mass Communication to her credit.
She has a Passion for her discipline and so contributes meaningfully to the field of Communication through her constant interactions with both International and National Bodies in the field of Communication by attending International and National Conferences. Some of these conferences include: IAMCR (Dublin, Ireland), ARTINER (Athens, Greece), IAMCR (Montreal, Canada), UNESCO COMTECDEV (Bordeaux, France). She has equally attended ODL-based Conferences locally and internationally, some of which are: ACDE(Lagos Nigeria), ICDE (Sun-city, South Africa), ACDE (Abuja , Nigeria), ACDE (Ghana, Virtual Conference) where she has presented papers that contribute essentially to the global trends in Mass Communication and ODL. She as attended a host of locally organized conferences in her professional field.
She is a good academic mentor and counsellor, having supervised scores of B.Sc, PGD and M.Sc Research Projects respectively. Currently has two Ph.D students being mentored by her in the Ph.D Mass Communication Programme.,
She has experiences in medicine, education and journalism. She belongs to several professional associations such as: IAMCR. ACCE, ACSPN, ACDE, ICDE and others.
She has a good Flair for writing. She likes playing table tennis, sewing and adventures.
